Viva Havana

I love pieces in my wardrobe that can be worn for more than one season, don't you? Plus, how perfect is this darker statement of a flower top... You can wear it for a summer vibe or even grunge feels, just add different accessories and a cool rocker skirt to add it up the notch. Play mix and match, it always helps!

Nowadays, I've been reading a lot of comments about "Can men wear florals?" "Will flowers really take root in men's wardrobes?" Why not? Not a big deal. From roses on rucksacks to tulips on T-shirts, floral prints are one of this season's biggest menswear trends, seen everywhere from Topman to Dries Van Noten - one of the biggest names in the fashion industry channelling for menswear apparels. Not to mention for women, florals has always been an essential, a necessity. Whether it's a vintage looking floral dress or even a leather jacket embroidered floral on top, you name it.

Had to go to this newly open cafe around the corner of the city for pictures, Slice of Cali. The place and ambiance reminds me of a retro yet Cuban tropical vibes. Meat me up! Surprisingly good pizza, a compliment from someone who have 0/100 fetish for it sometimes. My favorite dish would be, their mouth watering cheese fries, best combination.

I'm that type of person who always wanted to do everything, yet nothing at all. It's funny how sometimes we want to look on a different perspective in the public eye, not showing who we truly are. What's wrong with sharing your insecurities or even "life complaints", we all don't wanna be seen as a weak person but always remember this one thing that's for sure, there's no rainbow without a little rain and there's no sunset without the ending of a beautiful day.

Most asked questions through Instagram DMs and my Sarahah account I just made this past few weeks. If you don't know yet, Sarahah is a way to discover your strengths and areas of improvement by receiving honest feedback from people around you in a private manner, meaning I have no idea who it is from. You can always ask me anything through my account, simply click this link cindyclaribelk.sarahah.com and I'll do my best to reply them through this blog or elsewhere. How do I manage to keep track on blogging regardless of my work life? Do I take a weekend off just because I'm "The Boss" doesn't mean everything can and should work out that way, don't they? So let me tell you a story...

Reminiscing the past, I remembered my internship life on an every daily basis. The only thing I'm always looking forward to is that "O" sign next to my name on the calendar. Meaning it's my day off, no work just hanging out with friends, having the time of our lives like there's no tomorrow. Now, things have changed for me. Sometimes I feel like my mental age is older than how reality hits me as it is, and I like that, somehow. What I'm trying to say here, sometimes we took things for granted. What we once recklessly take a "easy peasy" over maybe that's all we ever wanted. At this very moment, I feel like having a lot of free time gave me insecurities. Why am I not doing this, and doing that? Why am I not making changes in my life? I love being a busy bee, knowing that I'm making progress one step at a time and continuing to do so believing in His plan. Time passes by so fast, it's ticking in just a blink of an eye. Carpe diem, seize the moment, own it, do what you love - love what you do. "Don't wish for success, work for it." "Do what you love and it will never be work." "It won't work unless you do." 3 phrases that keeps me going. What about yours?

So if this haven't answered you, readers questions just yet. Always set new goals every week, in that way you know your phase, where you're at the moment. It's like going back to one of those college days when submissions are what we're always terrified of. If you don't time limit yourself then when? Know your worth, even when sometimes you have to let go what weighs you down. That's what I do to manage time between blogging and work, and luckily both are in the same page chanelling in the fashion industry. Although what I'm currently doing, already is a hobby... I always make time for other hobbies that I didn't get to experience through work and by blogging. As for me, playing musical instruments  or simply going to the gym or dance classes - living a healthy and steady life gives me a peace of mind. Not only that, people surrounding me, families and friends, their love and support is a never ending cycle. I think by giving up on something, it's disrespectful to the person who believed in you - and to yourself.  Some people may have their different ways of finding outer and inner peace but maybe by trying out different stuffs, you'll eventually find yours. Who knows? You'll never know until you try.

Secret Garden

"Her heart was a secret garden and her walls were very high."
-Le Gassick

I grow plants for so many reasons; to please my soul, to challenge the elements or to challenge my patience for novelty, or for nostalgia, but mostly for the joy of seeing them grow. They say, bloom where you are planted. What if you're not familiar with your roots, your surroundings? Stop questioning and start doing, take a leap of faith in every step you take, that's what I kept telling myself. As simple as this saying, to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.

Wildflower

Red roses and white lies, lit up something inside of me I had thought long dead. Remember watching those 80s oldie romantic movies back in the days? This photoshoot we did reminds me of one of those scenes where a girl or a boy would stroll in a field full of flowers... Petals unfurl from a delicate flower, closer to picked with each passing hour, losing the I and gaining an our. Love me, love me not. I think we ran out of petals?

Apologize for the lack of posts on the blog, been a busy bee lately. Nevertheless, crossing fingers to consistency. Not to brag but this would be one of those photoshoots I put much effort into in such a long time, speaking of which had to legitimately went to a flower shop and surprise, it was my first experience, not bad for a first timer. Photo credits to Abraham Halim who's always down into any crazy or silly photoshoot ideas I had in mind. Laced up from head to toe in Victoria's Secret, black on black - always good to go.

Rodeo Ready

Reminiscing the past, reminds me of how much I love to play dress up. Remember one of those days? People would always ask you "What do you wanna be when you grow up?" My answer was plain old simple, not knowing how complicated it's going to be. The innocent side of me said "I wanna be a doctor one day and save people's lives the other side of me said "How about a pilot so I can travel all around the world regardless of my fear of heights?" Painter? Since I love art and how that it doesn't only tell stories but also evoke feelings. But then why must I choose when two is better than one? Call me a weirdo but I like to question myself since I was a little girl until now at all hours of the day - maybe it's just a habit of mine, "What if, why, when and how?" I believe talking to yourself makes you a much more happier person (at least that's what I did to solve my problems in life) and well, smarter. It's funny how we, human beings took things for granted. Now that I'm mature enough to settle things on my own, I wish I'm a kid again who always thought that I know it all - well, sometimes. You get me?

As time passes by, I see the world and value different things in life. I have trust issues, not because someone betrayed me in the past but just because I'm that typical who listens more rather than speak - if this doesn't make total sense, read carefully. Maybe, listening too much of my friend's stories about how cruel some people could be terrified me in the fact that I don't ever wanna be in that position of feeling betrayed(?) Okay, maybe only "a pea in a pot" kind of problem back then, no big deal. Spooky but I analyzed people based on first impressions, don't get me wrong but what you seemed is usually what you get. Have more than you show, speak less than you know. So, did I just literally wrote long sentences of life complaints? Just imagine how beautiful life could be to share happiness, sadness and weirdness all at the same time & I'm just glad and feeling blessed to be surrounded by positive minded people around me. Like what they say, b* don't kill my vibe.

Back to the main topic, never knew that "playing" turns to "passion" - let's dress up! This may sound bad but I like to collect clothing that I have no idea where and when to wear them. Believe not, if you're a girl I bet I'm not the only one. "Just in case" yeah that's what I kept telling myself too. I always love bohemian style, fringes - tassels they're just stylish in their own way. In my hometown, you can't necessarily be seen going out with these kind of essentials on, unless you want to be called quirky that is. So, I was really happy when there's this country rock music event going on recently - turns out those "just in case" works just like a spark. What do you think? Keep scrolling down.

It wasn't my first time being in this kind of event, if you follow me on my Instagram before you'll see one or two posts about it. Sometimes I'm channelling a rather more "fun", "feminine" side of bohemian style or the other way around - just simple monochrome. People really do dress up in this kind of event, didn't bring my cowboy hat along with me this time around - mainstream but yes it's the most essential part of a rodeo event. Vintage feels, going for brown hues since that's what it's identical with.

Arabian Heat

A message in a bottle. No one truly knows who they are. The glass bottle does not know its own contents. It has no idea whether it is a vessel for the most delicious apple cider, a lovingly crafted wine, or a bitter poison. People are the same. Yet like the bottle, we are transparent. We can't see ourselves the way others see us. Have you ever felt so stressed out you just need a little glimpse of escape from reality? I guess I'm in that phase in life. Trying to find myself in a world full of terrifying delusions. It's like waiting for a bottle floating out at sea, one that contains a very important message. It may never reach its recipient, but as long as there is someone waiting, it will always have purpose. What I'm trying to say here, where will all of this take me?

I always believe in this phrase "Everything happens for a reason." but don't you sometimes wish you know what the reason was? As time passes by I realized a lot of things in life, both the good(s) that made me a better person and the bad(s) that made me think twice. What goes around comes back around, am I right?

Same old same old, if you follow me on my social media this might not be something new. I always post a photo right after I published a new archive and announced that it's finally up on the blog. Most of you DM-ed me and emailed how inspiring and thoughtful it was to share my own experiences and well should I say, things I wanted to say but never did? It made my day to hear such positive responses, the fact that this is a fashion blog platform does not always mean you can't share a lil' something that goes into your mind at all hours of the day... So, thank you eventhough I ditch blogging for about 2 years - never knew that words can be so powerful for other people around me. It's funny, don't you think? When it's hard to say the things tumbling on a mind but it just seems way easier to write it all down, for me that is. I guess I found my little glimpse of escape from reality I was talking about earlier. Bittersweet.

Plot Twist

Turn your favourite love song on, or a playlist will do. Why? Just to seize the moment, can't hurt anybody right? First and foremost, let me tell you a story about a girl, who have acrophobia. "Acrophobia (from the Greek: ἄκρονákron, meaning "peak, summit, edge" and φόβος, phóbos, "fear") is an extreme or irrational fear or phobia of heights, especially when one is not particularly high up." Hoping that she can cross that fear factor off the list one day when she knew that she had always adore sceneries from a skyscraper, call her tumbling on the edge of a cliff because sometimes she'll scream out loud about love but gets cold as ice the next day on, there might be so many books in the library but you will still can't read her mind. Say it a plot twist. She's the type who's afraid of heights but little did she know - she is more afraid of never flying. Yeah, you got that right; the girl I was talking about is me. Well, I'm not going to blab about my so-called-phobia at this moment it's about another fear in particular..

In the wake of a denial, have you ever had a love interest? I bet all of us did, or maybe are now? Taking a moment back to the 17th century, where it all began - the famous painting "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Johannes Vermeer who inspired this shoot we did and you'll be seeing in a little while... This painting was translated into movies and various novel series, she was the family maid's assistant, Griet who then became Vermeer's soulmate. Those 3 simple words in fictional movies / novels has 2 meanings and there's only one thing on one's mind. Love requires some falling but what if she's afraid of heights? Sorry, I'm just so interested into history of paintings or anything art related which some people might find it boring. Oh and if you ask me, what's the perfect date place ever? My answer might be shocking, it's an art museum. Sharing thoughts tumbling in a bubbly mind and convoluted conversations attracts me into a whole new level instead of gossiping around - and just maybe having a chit chat of absolute nonsense at the most hype cafe in town, you get me?

Makeup on set by my talented friend, Fei and photo credits to Abraham Halim.

This shoot was done at the end of June, before my 2 weeks holiday and since I'm back on my working days - I got time to blog after office hours. What a relieve! Explained how tropical the outfit is since this archive was supposed to be publish during those long summer holidays but to think of it again - it's always hot and humid here in Indonesia. So, good news and for the readers who's going through a much more cold weather now - maybe try this look next time?

Dolled up in this set of outer wear and pants from Dolce & Gabbana which compliments really well with the bandana I'm wearing. Decided to pair it up with a plain black top to add color dimensions. All time favourite heels is from Gucci, not so friendly since it hurts like hell but pretty hurts right?

Mystic Ways

Bali, baby! You know that it's like your second home when your fingers can't even count or cope with that. Just for your information, Bali is famous for their mouth-watering delicacies and stunning sceneries. Call it paradise. It's the perfect place to increase your weight scale - which in this case is apparently a bad idea for me. Anyway, I'm planning to hit back the gym and start my diet meal routine after these trips, crossing fingers... Back to the main topic, do you believe in mystical creatures or stories? Balinese people have a strong belief for it and the "famous character" is called Barong, it is a lion-like creature in the mythology of Bali, Indonesia. He is the king of the spirits, leader of the hosts of good, and enemy of Rangda, the demon queen and mother of all spirit guarders in the mythological traditions of Bali. The battle between Barong and Rangda is featured in Barong dance to represent the eternal battle between good and evil. A tour guide once told me this philosophy and I find it quite interesting to know the history of a place before you're actually going there, don't you think so?

Enough for the long and boring introduction, who says you can't rock a $3 shirt? If you compare it to the others, Indonesia can be count as in the country with lowest rates. So, "cheap" is normal and you can literally find this shirt anywhere here - quality wise, no need to question that you know the answer, right? I was strolling around the streets of Bali and even though I worn this kind of shirt for photo purposes during my visit here before.. Tie-dye always caught my eye, when I was still in college I remembered that my first class I had to attend to was "Introduction to Textiles" here we got to learn where it is originated, how it's made, it's best usage and most importantly textile development in Fashion Design. One of those thousand tasks, we learned to make our own tie-dye shirt and I fell in love with the method on that moment on, just because I can experiment on different colors and knotting those intricate patterns just the way I want to perfection. You should try it sometimes, it's fun!

On my last day at Bali, all of my family and I decided to be "extra" and match our outfits in the tie-dye barong shirt. Kinda lame, "it's not into the trend nowadays" or whatsoever you want to say but I'm just joining their excitement. All of us had our own different color choices, I like something more vibrant especially when I'm in a holiday mood so I went for red. As always, photo purposes but we all ended up not taking any pictures together and mind our own business, too bad huh?

Took these pictures just right at our hotel lobby before going out for a quick lunch. Going for the extra mile, not the usual accessories that I would normally wear but occasionally for pictures - I don't mind. Red on red, I'm so color coordinated when it comes to outfits and of course, Instagram feed. This whole thing of a one theme every 3 pictures drove me insane sometimes but a girl gotta do what a girl gotta do...

Broken Curiosity

Stay comfortable, stay chic at the same time. Is that too much to ask for? I'm the type of person who options comfortable outfits before anything else. However, comfortable doesn't always mean fashionable or stylish; one wrong move and you can look lazy and sloppy. If you're facing the same problem, keep scrolling down!

Monochrome, black on black or whatever you call it - can't deny that it is most people's safe colors. Call it the comfort zone if you want to, and yes that's the main point of what I want to share on today's post - staying comfortable in what you wear with just a little effort. Take an example of what I'm channelling, don't lie - nothing can beat oversize shirts (well, for me that is). Oh and surprise, an unexpected ribbon detailing at the back because plain is *sometimes boring, don't you agree?

3 easy steps to make your outfit look effortlessly stylish.. First and foremost, accessorize - take note that simple accessories will do, thin bangle or just a few simple rings always help. Bad hair day? Go for a hat; may it be fedora, cap or bowler hat - you name it. Now, what's next? A good pair of shoes will always do the trick. I swear this Steve Madden heels is too comfortable to be true. Lastly, don't be lazy to do your makeup - remember that less is more.

Layering garment pieces are into trend nowadays. The same method as what I did, striving for a rebel look - nets and just a hint of transparency does the perfect job. Can you imagine how boring this look would be without that inner piece? Voila, now you get me.

See you on my next blog posts. Hope this helps!

Scrabble Rebel

Let's play a game. Shall we? I like to scrabble around my wardrobe, it's time to be creative. Before getting into the main topic, I would like to share to you guys a personal story of mine. Let's be honest here I bet the first thing that comes into mind was (This is going to be a one hell long of a boring paragraph) well believe it or not, it ain't.

Cut to the chase, I used to be one of those "emo girls". All that I wanted to wear on an every daily basis was black and only black. Well, yes green is the new black or in this case the other way around but don't you think that it's just plain old' boring? They say you can never go wrong with black, totally agree. The only color that I wanted to wear back then besides black was white. What else pairs perfectly with the darkest color, resulting from the absence or complete absorption of light? Like white and grey, it is an achromatic color, literally a color without hue. Playing with contrast of colours are what I'm pursuing for. I was like, hey I'm getting bored of my style should I go for a change? When you're happy don't you feel like wearing something that shines, gives you that pop of colour? I believe that colour changes mood, not only yours but to the person you're with too in that particular time. Like what they say, "Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak." So, I change the way I dress and styled myself in different ways - it's the tricky part right here, get out of your comfort zone. I mean it, in everything you do besides fashion that is. Don't be a snail or tortoise who won't come out of it's shell. Another quote to live by, "A pearl is worthless as long as it is in it's shell." and even though you might heard this phrase for a thousand times but it's true, "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." Nevertheless, I started pairing up garment pieces - not too over the top just in the right amount of "sugar, spice and everything nice" should I call it that way?

Today, I'm channelling something a bit' rebel. Army green oversize jacket just the way I like it, oversize - from Zara. Those cute patches are just too hard to resist. Besides loose garment pieces, I love textures, a little furry friend from a random store I ran into at Singapore. Oh and did I mentioned that I love Gucci's latest F/W collection back in 2016? Kept eye-ing on this particular heels while I was scrolling down through Vogue archives on the latest fashion show a while ago and a bad habit will always stay as a bad habit *maybe* so there you go, yay or nay?

Who's That Chick?

First post of 2017. It's relatively sad yet very amusing how these years have passed by so quickly. I've just graduated from my diploma year in Fashion Design at Raffles Design Institute - Singapore, in case some of you're wondering that is and that was exactly last year, 2016 on a December night. Yes, we spent most of the night just like how fresh-graduates did, poppin' champagne bottles and pourin' wine to end the miraculously long day, to end my 2 years of college life. One of the reasons why I *quit* blogging for awhile, those never ending assignments and projects never amused me. I remembered staying up late and to top it all of - no sleep for 2 days, crazy huh? I know some of you can totally relate to this. They say it's a very lucky opportunity being a design student, you got to do the things you enjoy doing. Well, that's true but on the other hand very tiring as well - believe me. No regrets just lesson learned, I totally enjoyed nevertheless what I'd been through the thick and thin and would never take it for granted or trade it for anything else.

Oh anyway, good news. Since, I've finally graduated and currently on the "work" stages in life. I can say that I got time for stuffs I would always like to do or experience but never did. In this case, love never had a space in my book of life - Well, should I give it a try? If you know me, I'm that adventurous happy-go-lucky kind of girl, anything that doesn't require heights (of course). Moreover, I've been more active on Instagram lately but the feelings and vibes are just not the same like how blog is. Specifically on blogging, I can finally pour my heart out and write again. It's like a personal yet very public stress-relieve therapy, to write - to share - to inspire, perhaps?

Enough for the long and boring introduction, most of my friends are still in college. Okay, not most but precisely all of them and yes for your information I just turned 19 this year. These pictures were taken by my talented friend Abraham Halim. It was for his final project at college, we were video shooting but ended up taking some random shots too. Couldn't resist, can't waste a good outfit right?

Who's that chick? The classic leather jacket never fails, paired it up with a plaid old skirt to live it up the notch. Reminded me of that 70's rocker vibes. Don't you agree?
